    Biography

    Vernae Rahman-Smith has a Master’s Degree in Social Work from Howard University, and she is also a certified Doula. Vernae completed her Community Health Worker/Birth Doula Certification through Urban Baby Beginnings and her Postpartum Doula training through Cornerstone Birthwork Training. Vernae was led to the postpartum doula space after completing her Master’s in Social Work and working in the field with young adults in foster care and with older adults, coupled with over 7 years of babysitting and nannying experience.
     
    Vernae has worked with all child age groups, including infants and up to high school age as a mentor or tutor. Vernae is currently pursuing her lactation consultant/specialist training and looks forward to supporting families in meeting their breastfeeding goals. 
     
    Vernae was born and raised in Sacramento, CA. Verna moved to the DC area to attend Howard University and has been living in the DC area for the past 9.5 years. At Howard, Vernae studied accounting in undergrad and received her master’s in social work.
